3 Doors Down to Release New Album

May 18th, 2008 · No Comments

When Escatawpa’s multi-platinum Grammy-nominated 3 Doors Down released their third album in 2005, they called it “Seventeen Days” because it reflected the deadline the band was working under to put the record out.

Now, three years later, the band’s fourth offering, “3 Doors Down,” to be released Tuesday, is self-titled because it may completely represent the band’s identity and “it’s probably the best record we’ve ever done,” bassist Todd Harrell said.

The band has had a longstanding relationship with America’s military, dating back to the early days of the war in the Middle East. Some military personnel and their loved ones unofficially adopted the band’s single, “When I’m Gone,” as a song to represent their feelings at that time.

Blind Dates, Google and ID Verification

April 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Let’s face it - blind dates aren’t often fun, and sometimes they can be downright scary.  Whether you were set up by a “friend” at work or you met someone online, the initial meeting can be a little scary.  Have you ever Google’d someone before meeting them?  I bet it happens more often than you think.

That’s why here at MilitaryDatingOnline we are taking the steps to help you be more comfortable with the people you meet on our site.

First, we don’t allow spammers.  We’ve already totally blocked several countries from even submitting profiles, because they were all spammers!  We want only real people making real profiles on our site.  The spammers can go visit those other pay sites.

Second, we are in the process of providing our members with something revolutionary to the dating scene.  Gone will be the days of worry when you meet someone from our site.  Gone will be the days when you’re afraid to reply to “Babbette” because you fear that it could really be “Bob” that’s at the other end.

Keep an eye on our site.  Over the next few weeks you’ll see some changes - changes that we hope are for the good of our awesome members.  Changes that we think you’ll like.

Who’s The Next Cheating Public Figure?

April 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Men can’t help it. Its in their genes! Regardless of their economic, financial or emotional state, the male species is a ticking cheating time bomb. Granted a certain percentage of men are faithful and a “one women” kinda guy. But the rest of us are just as horny as the next guy in the room.

Like a lion in heat, thousands of men flock to online dating sites to satisfy their thirst for these forbidden pleasures - meeting someone online and hooking up later on for a mystery date. Perhaps the experience of meeting secretly over dating sites provides a rush far exceeding going to the bar and meeting random singles. Or the fear of getting caught makes it more of a game to those who like to “win” - in this case not getting caught with their pants down.

Of course cheating happens everyday behind closed doors and it’s only a matter of time when someone screws up and give themselves up. Or an insider purposely leaks the information for whatever malicious reasons. Either way, no one cheats forever. But some men would like to think they can avoid getting caught their their hands in the cookie jar by leveraging their power, money and influence. Guess again. The more powerful you are, the more difficult it is to keep these sexual secrets, well, a secret.  Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer and Kwame Kilpatrick, just to name a few, have been caught in sexual scandals in our time. While these situations proved to be uncomfortable for their families and friends, disturbing for the community and at best, entertaining for the rest of the world, it is not going to stop here.

So go ahead and take a guess,  who will screw up next? We haven’t seen a government official of the female sex get caught yet have we? :)

Is MilitaryDatingOnline.com for sale?

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

We have been asked this question several times over the past couple of months - and would like to take a few minutes to set the story straight.

My partner and I started this military dating site several years ago as a pet project, and soon realized that the majors are not designed to handle dating services for the armed forces. So for over 6 months we spent hundreds of hours redesigning the site, adding full member features and still thinking of ways to make our users’ experience more enjoyable. And we believe we’re about 90% of the way to become the best military singles dating site! (There’s always that 10% room for improvement! ^_^ )

So here’s the interesting part. Several sites (name not disclosed due to privacy issues) have approached us to see if we’re willing to sell MilitaryDatingOnline.com. Holy Shizzle! What a dream come true - you might say. Isn’t every site owners’ dream to build a site, create a strong community and sell it for millions of dollars? Although, our offer was not in the millions! :(

But that’s not the point! So why did we push back on all acquisition inquiries? Simple. We hate money! Ok, kidding. We just feel that we have much more to learn about our community and deliver kickass experiences to our members. There’s so much to learn in this growing niche and since major dating sites are having an increasingly difficult time retaining their userbase due to lousy marketing and tactics, we definitely have more users coming our way. Especially when online daters realize that MilitaryDatingOnline.com is not just for military singles, but for anyone who is seeking love online! Simply said, we’re not done yet :)

So until we reached a point we feel that outside help is needed to take MilitaryDatingOnline.com to the next level, we will not be entertaining any thought of a sale.

Happy dating!!

MySpace Sucks - Let’s Not Follow

January 31st, 2008 · No Comments

A blog post caught my attention recently. It was called “International Delete Your MySpace Account Day!” How sweet sounding is that? Here I am trying to improve my members’ experience and the heavens sent down a gift. How much is the impact of this movement, we will never tell. Since I’m quite certain MySpace will pretend like nothing happened, like they always do.

But what really intrigued me was the list of reasons listed by Simon Owens, the man behind this movement, about why he wants to delete his MySpace profile off cyberspace. Many reasons will strike a cord with many of you who are using MySpace as your social network of choice, but after reading this you too will realize that MySpace is nothing but a junkyard of poorly managed collection of web pages.

I want to go through the reasons of why people are deleting their MySpace profile and see if here at MilitaryDatingOnline (MDO) we are guilty of the same crime! Let’s begin.

1. You rarely log in to Myspace except to delete spam friend requests from nude webcam girls. - I’ll be damned if we have this going on in our messaging system. Actually I did find one earlier this week of a profile that was using the messaging system to send images for hotels in some weird places. What did I do? Zapped! KILLED IT!

2. You spend five minutes writing a wall post only to hit an error message when you try to post it because of all the website glitches. - Don’t have a wall post. So I couldn’t care less about this error :)

3. You’re a girl who constantly gets marriage proposals from random men in the middle east. - Damn! This couldn’t be more true of any social networking site. I’m sure our members get proposals too. This is something not MySpace or any social site can control! UNFAIR!

4. You visit someone’s Myspace profile only to suddenly have music start blasting out of your speakers. Bonus points if it happens to you while you’re at work. - Ok guilty at first. There used to be a feature to let you upload your “profile music.” So I uploaded one and when I loaded my profile, the damn song blasted so loud - so much so I disabled the feature! Whew - thank god we’re not like MySpace.

5. You have to make redundant clicks to perform simple tasks because Myspace keeps taking you to advertisement pages where you have to click on “return to myspace profile” in order to continue what you’re doing. - MySpace makes money that way. Without forcing their users to look at ads, they cannot sell “pageviews” to advertisers. I have to say, this is something I am most proud off for MDO. Our site is not supported by advertisers. As a matter of fact, so far, this site has been supported by google adwords and some affiliate links only.

6. You visit someone’s profile only to have your eyes bleed because of terrible page layout with non-matching designs and font colors. -  We do allow customizing background, font color, background color for profiles. But not to the extent of have each profile look awkward. Is that what Fox paid millions of dollars for? Geeze…what a waste. There’s a limit to customization and personalizing your profile, and MySpace just went off the extreme with that feature.

7. Your experience is hindered because of intrusive banner ads that either talk to you or try to reach out and block your view of what you’re trying to look at. - This sucks. Period.

8. You read yet another news account about how some child predator using Myspace has abducted a little girl or that some hoax myspace account has caused a teenager to commit suicide. - I’m surprised MySpace has not be shut down yet. MySpace is neither a adult site or a teen site. It’s really in between and for the life of the MySpace team - they don’t have a clue as to what direction they want to go. Don’t even talk about age verification - cause we know that crap doesn’t work. So if they went full speed ahead with adult-only, then they will lose 60% of their page views (or more). If they went teens only, then well, then who are they going to market ads to? A little SNAFU there.

9. You’re frustrated with the fact that Myspace doesn’t allow you to post your contact info, meaning to contact someone you can only use Myspace’s glitchy Instant Messenger, message/email system, or wall commenting. - They got to sell those ads. You would think that with the hundreds of millions invested into that site, they would have a kickass messenger system in place.

10. You’re tired of seeing Tom stare out at you from millions of friends lists and just wish he would change his fucking profile picture. - OUCH! I thought that was actually a “decent” item.  I guess I should change up the pictures once in a while huh :)

So there you have it. How MySpace stacks up to Military Dating Online. It appears we’re not doing as bad as MySpace, and compared to the resource they have versus what we have here at MDO, I’d say we’re kicking ass! Now, if we can only get 8 Million users!! :)

Answering Some Member Questions

January 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Q. The economy here is getting worse. With times getting tougher, are you guys going to start asking us for money?

A. No way! We will continue to offer Military Dating Online as a 100% FREE service to all members!

Q. I can’t afford some of these ‘great’ online dating sites. They have commercials that promise all these things, but they suck. And if I want them, I have to ‘upgrade’ which costs me more money.

A. Well our site is still free. We are working hard every week to add new things (like widgets and horoscopes) - and we aren’t going to charge you for them!

Q. How much does this website cost?

A. Didn’t I mention it? It’s free!

Ok, so I made up the questions.  Point being (in case you missed the obvious) - our site is not going to cost you a dime.  The economy may be going down the tubes, companies are laying people off like mad, and times are getting tougher, but MilitaryDatingOnline will continue to cost you exactly zero dollars.

Over 3000% increase in 2007

January 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Military dating is a niche that has been growing exponentially for years and even more drastic recently with hundreds of thousands of soldiers being deployed to Iraq and other U.S. bases overseas.

It is important for community sites to size up their competition once in a while. So going into 2008, I decided to check out how we faired in 2007 against a few of the older military singles websites. The “quick view” results were shocking, yet pleasant :)

I visited Compete.com to see how MilitaryDatingOnline.com stacks up to MilitaryPassions.com and MilitaryDate.com. See for yourself…

MilitaryDate.com does have more members than us, but the graphs shows a rapid decline in users between June - August. To be fair to Military Date, this could be around the time of vacations, duty deployment (no access to the web), etc. MilitaryDatingOnline.com’s traffic follows similar trends around the June - August period as well. So we are doing something right :)

military dating services graph

Let’s look at some numbers now.

Stats

I was shocked at the results, especially for our military dating site. First, the Month-over-Month increase by over 80% wasn’t too surprising since we have been working hard to promote our military dating services all over the world. We currently have singles from over 20+ countries in our community and growing.

Now to the “shocking” part. Since December 2006, our traffic has increased by 3,000%, 3102.1% to be exact in unique visitors, according to Compete.com. That just…well…KICKS ASS! (pardon my excitement)

So there you go. A round of Congratulations to the MilitaryDatingOnline.com community and loyal users for making our site a success in 2007. We continue to make 2008 a better year for every one of our members (yes, you!) with superb support, additional features, and much much more!

p/s: If you have any features you would like to see improved or added, please let us know.

Weekend Wisteria!

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

It’s Saturday, the weather sucks and so I decided to stay home and play around with some social sites out there. It’s about time we embrace other sites and open it up to our members (you!)

Everyone knows YouTube.com, seen a video clip or made a video. So we have added the ability for every member to upload their all-time favorite YouTube video!

And while browsing I also found another totally cool application - called Slide.com. If you haven’t heard about it, you have now and I swear this widget is sooooooooo addictive. It allows you to create slide shows with customizable layouts, text, colors to personalize your own slide show widget.

You can see what I’m talking about on my profile below.

Click here to see my profile: Derek

Another update is a feed of latest discussion topics from the forums. The latest 5 topics is now listed on the homepage for easy access!

All in all, this has been as awesome weekend so far for site upgrades. Let me know what you think about these new cool features.
